  1. Subic Bay Freeport Zone was once an American naval base. Together with Clark Air Base, they constitute as one of the largest American military bases outside the U.S. mainland.
  2. Subic Bay was first used as a naval facility by the Americans during the first decade of the 1900’s.
  3. After World War II, the Philippine and American governments signed a military bases treaty that allowed American forces to use the naval base until the early 1990’s. The treaty was not renewed in 1991.
  4. Republic Act No. 7227, also known as the Bases Conversion and Development Act of 1992, made it legal to convert the naval base into a free port zone. The Act was amended in 2006.
  5. The organization that manages today’s Subic Bay Freeport Zone is the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority or SBMA. The first SBMA chairman was Richard Gordon, who is a member of the Philippine Senate (2018).
  6. Subic Bay Freeport Zone is called, simply, as Subic. It is located in the province of Zambales in Central Luzon. It is a tourist destination, an engine of economic growth, and a clean-and-green place for living. It is also used for military purposes, occasionally.
  7. From Metro Manila, Subic Bay can be reached by Saulog bus. From the terminal of Saulog, there are jeepney rides that will take the visitors to the gate of the freeport zone. Furthermore, Saulog Transit provides services for educational and group tours.
