Bougainvillea spectabilis is a popular garden plant in the Philippines. It is a shrub which is known for its very small, white flowers surrounded by thin, delicate bracts. The bracts may be red, pink, white, yellow or orange in color. The bougainvillea blooms throughout the year, and it is terribly attractive when it is in full bloom.

Dona Aurora and Dona Luz are two kinds of mussaenda. Dona Aurora and Dona Luz have soft, large and thick bracts or sepals which serve as background for their small, star-shaped, yellow flowers. However, the color of the bracts of Dona Aurora is white while the color of the bracts of Dona Luz is pink. Like the Bougainvillea spectabilis, mussaenda like lots of sunlight. They bloom throughout the year, and they are most beautiful during summer.
